“I think that before long American football will find its moment of glory”
In Belgium, the Super Bowl is about the only time of the year when we talk about American football. When the Covid is not playing spoilsport, some clubs from our region organize a special event to follow this match at the top. Pascal DecooPresident of the Brussels Tigers affirms the interest shown by the Belgians for this world event: “Usually, we organize a big party, it’s the night of the Super Bowl. We bring together players, alumni, supporters, everyone is welcome. In Belgium, there are a lot of American football fans who are not players but who watch the Super Bowl. It’s a great opportunity to bring people together but this year again the Covid prevents us from doing so.”
Between the announcement of events on Facebook (special evening for the Super Bowl, introduction to US football, etc.) to promote this discipline and the matches that can be watched more easily than before, social networks play a major role in the democratization of American football. “Thirty years ago, the Super Bowl was the only American football game you could see. He also had to go to certain bars that had satellite broadcasting. It was complicated to see another meeting than the Super Bowl. Today the broadcasters are becoming more and more numerous and therefore bring back more spectators”, recount Pascal Decoo.
