Toulouse. Peyroux: “Don’t forget to have fun”
The 2nd line experimentation of the TO approached this first match of the season with a natural relaxation.
With more than fifty matches in the NRL under the colors of Gold Coast then the New Zealand Warriors, before joining Saint-Helens and the Super League in 2016 where he won two titles after more than a hundred matches, Dominique Peyroux, 32, calmly approaches this return to English competition under the colors of Toulouse.
Dominique, in what state of mind does the TO approach this great first in the Super League?
There is a bit of nervousness, a lot of excitement but no fear. It’s the club’s first game in the Super League, so you have to take it the right way, enjoy this unique moment and above all, don’t forget to have fun.
You know the Super League well, how do you define this competition?
It’s a demanding, tough competition, there is a lot of difference with the Championship but I sincerely believe that we have the team to face it. What will count for a promoted is the state of mind, it is very important, whether on and off the field. I insist on that. This state of mind is essential, you have to do everything for the group, for the others.
The objective of maintaining seems reasonable for the TO.
Totally. Maintaining will be the main goal with the idea of becoming competitive for the future. You know, the season is long in the Super League. Last year, we patiently built our project to go up and be ready to compete in the Super League. When Leigh was drafted at the last moment, they obviously weren’t ready. We were also candidates for this repechage but in the end, it was a blessing in disguise. Now, we must take advantage of this season in the Super League to refine our project for the next seasons.
What should the TO expect in this competition?
The big difference with the Championship is in the speed of the game, there are also more quality players in the teams, a higher quality of play.
Your attacking game should be an asset, right?
Yes, certainly but we will have to be attentive, especially in the defensive sector. We will have to know how to adapt to our opponents, assuming that the leading teams, those of the Top 3, offer something very structured. We, in Toulouse, it goes a little more in all directions (laughs).
Do you like this Toulouse style?
Yes, I like the pron game at the TO. I arrived from Saint-Helens where everything was very structured in our plans. Here, you can express yourself on the pitch with a little more freedom and that, I appreciate.
