Toulouse 22nd out of 38 in the ranking of cycling cities
Toulouse’s cycling climate is “rather preferred”, according to the 2022 barometer of cycling cities. The pink city is in the second part of the table and the results of the Toulouse conurbation do not change the level.

Unveiled on Thursday February 10, 2022 by the French Federation of Bicycle Users (FUB), this survey is based on the resentment of cyclists, their satisfaction and their needs. The 4,300 participants in the questionnaire in Toulouse judged that their city rather presented a “preferred cycling climate”, for a score of 2.96, which places it in the “E” category.
For each of the questions in the survey, classified into five themes, respondents gave a score between 1 (negative) and 6 (positive). An overall score was calculated for each city based on the average of the five themes. Based on this overall rating, cities are categorized on a scale from A+ (“excellent cycling climate”) to G (“very poor cycling climate”)
The strongest points of the city:
- the ease of renting a bike
- the ease of finding a repairer
- and two-way cycling (on one-way car streets).
The weakest points:
- insecurity in circular cycling for children and the elderly
- the absence of an alternative in the event of works
- the parking of motorized vehicles on cycle routes
- bicycle theft
- and the volume and speed of motorized traffic.
In the Toulouse conurbation, only L’Union has a “rather favorable” rating, for the other results are quite poor.
8 cities are classified D moderately favorable: Blagnac, Castanet-Tolosan, Colomiers, Labège, Portet-sur-Garonne, Ramonville-St-Agne, Quint-Fonsegrives, and Tournefeuille.
11 cities are classified as “rather preferred”: Aucamville, Auzeville-Tolosane, Balma, Brax, Cugnaux, Escalquens, Launaguet, Montrabé, Muret, St Orens-de-Gameville and Villeneuve-Tolosane.
Others are classified as ‘low’ and ‘very low’.
On this 2022 podium of monitored cycling cities, Grenoble is in first place, ahead of Strasbourg and Rennes.
