The livery of the MCL36 inspired by the McLaren Gulf of Monaco
McLaren unveiled this Friday in single-seaters for the 2022 season; the MCL36, which will be driven this year by Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris.
The team says the decision to modify its traditional papaya was made because it wanted to do something special for the new era of F1, including taking inspiration from the special livery Gulf (on the left in the illustration photo) which was widely appreciated by fans at last year’s Monaco Grand Prix. The orange color present on the livery of the MCL36 is the same as that used on the livery gulf last year in Monaco, while a note of blue is also present this year on the MCL36, still in relation to the livery Gulf.
” We have had our discount appraised since we came back to Papaya. We wanted something very lively and that would change the hue of our papayas. » said McLaren CEO Zak Brown.
” I think the broadcast changes we made last year, both in Monaco and Abu Dhabi, got a lot of good feedback from the fans, and they liked to see a lot of energy. I think she [la MCL36] great speed and great elegance. So it’s just a natural evolution, and we’re also trying to make sure that we give all of our business partners good visibility on the car. »
While the colors are very reminiscent of the Gulf handover seen in Monaco last year, McLaren claims the change was not authorized by any sponsorship request from the oil company: “Gulf has not increased its commitment to us. » Brown added.
