From Monday 14 February at 18.00 the projections will start, on Wednesday 16 February at 19.30 Paolo Ruffini will be the same in this work on Alzheimer’s “PerdutaMente” is a documentary on Alzheimer’s. So on care and love, this is why it is released in theaters on February 14, Valentine’s Day. The project investigates the reality of a rampant phenomenon, which directly involves and interprets millions of people. It is an immersion in a world made in equal measure of fragility and strength, overflowing with humanity. Paolo Ruffini, who directed it with Ivana Di Biase, for two years traveled from Calabria to Trentino passing through Livorno memory to meet people who have lost their way, enter their homes and families, listen to their words and silences. He has collected, with delicacy and sincerity, the stories of them and of the family members who take care of them. Like that of Franco and Teresa.
“What does it mean to take care of a sick person? To love”. Franco has no hesitation. He adds: “I saw Teresa’s soul come out of her eyes. I understood that I could not heal her but I could love, give her help and dignity”. “It is a ferocious and dramatic disease, it gnaws at everything. But not love. An element that escapes science and travels on its own, along lines that the sick organism cannot deteriorate” says Paolo Ruffini, actor, director and author of “UP & Down”, a documentary on disability, which also received a show at the theater, tells of having also started this project out of curiosity – “Before I did not know this world. And it seems to me particularly significant that the inspiration came in this period of pandemic in which we are focused on disease and not on health; in which we talk about death rather than life. An emotional part is missing. The pandemic certainly does not have solidarity “.
Paolo Ruffini therefore crosses Italy to interview people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and their families, defined as “second victims” of Alzheimer’s, who are faced with an enormous physical and emotional burden accompanying their loved ones through the painful path of the disease. From Alzheimer’s disease, to date, it is not possible to heal, however it is possible to cure it, in the sense of “taking care” of the one you love, and the only possible cure is love. The narrative center of the documentary is not the disease, but the emotions and feelings that bind patients to loved ones.
