Bike. Toulouse is progressing, but remains “rather moderate” for cyclists
Toulouse is improving according to the third Barometer of bike-friendly cities. But the climate remains “rather unfavourable” according to the cyclists. The Pink City ranks 22nd among municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants.
There is a lot of progress, but it is not enough. Toulouse Barometer of cycling cities published by the Federation of Bicycle Users on Thursday 10 February. This is up from the 2.88 points received in 2019. This rating corresponds to a “rather unfavorable” climate for cyclists, according to the classification used in the study.
The Pink City is therefore below the average of the 38 cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants in France, which stands at 3.05. In this category, Toulouse ranks 22nd. Far from Grenoble (4.21), Strasbourg (4.18) and Rennes (3.74) which form the top three.
In Occitania, among cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, Toulouse does less well than Montpellier in terms of cycling. The latter received 3.15 points, which corresponds to a “medium favorable” climate for cyclists. On the other hand, the Pink City does better than Nîmes, which 2.33 points, and Perpignan, 2.49 points.
In the region, the highest rated communes are Marseillan (4.47) in Hérault, Le Barcarès (4.09) and Toulouges (4.03), both in Pyrénées-Orientales.
Methodology : cyclists are invited to answer 26 questions with marks ranging from a negative assessment to six for a positive assessment. The questions relate to the general feeling, safety, comfort, the efforts of the municipality, parking and bicycle services.
