XPeng expands its presence in Europe when it announces retail agreements in the Netherlands and Sweden, p5 then teases
Following its entry into the Norwegian electric car market last year, XPeng Motors is expanding to the Netherlands and Sweden and opening branded stores. XPeng’s business model for Europe combines direct sales with an agency model, and delivers brand stores almost immediately.
Xiaopeng, aka XPeng Motors, is one of the more prominent electric car manufacturers in China, with expansion into other markets that continue to grow. Its entry into the EV segment began in 2018 with its G3 SUV.
G3 was soon joined by P7 since 2019, and both electric cars have remained pillars in XPeng’s fleet. The car manufacturer has since expanded abroad and sold both electric cars in Europe, starting in Norway.
Speaking of Europe, XPeng Motors recently teased further expansion outside Norway via Twitter, when they asked their audience what its next destination would be:
This led us to start speculating about further EV sales across Europe from XPeng. When we asked for a comment, we actually received confirmation.
XPeng Motors sells electric cars in Europe through an agency model
XPeng shared the news of its expansion to the Netherlands and Sweden via a press release and announced strategic retail partners in each new market.
In the Netherlands, XPeng has signed a cooperation agreement with Emil Frey Nederland NV, which will help develop the car manufacturer’s sales and service network, while XPeng’s brand stores are managed throughout the country.
The agreement marks the first Agency Retail collaboration for XPeng in Europe. As one of the largest car trade organizations in the EU, Emil Frey will provide a service and distribution network for XPeng’s electric cars, delivering consistent prices both online and at dealerships – the first to open next month at Westfield Mall near The Hague.
In Sweden, XPeng has shared news of a similar approach with Bilia, the largest car distributor in the country, consisting of 58 dealers and 66 service centers. XPeng EVs will be available in Bilia stores starting immediately at locations in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.
Tomorrow, the Chinese carmaker will also open its first Experience Store in Stockholm – a self-run retail location for the international market, but probably not the last. XPeng Motors Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng spoke about the company’s expansion in Europe:
Our global journey begins in Europe, driven by our commitment to smart electric cars. We strongly support the development strategy for electric cars in Europe and create partnerships with top-level local actors to accelerate energy saving, emission reduction and electrification in Europe. This approach will optimize our strength in digitization, rapid iteration of product features, quality control, operational efficiency and at the same time make the best use of our partners’ deep local knowledge, well-established networks and customer expertise.
In addition to Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden, XPeng also shared that they have made significant progress in Denmark – a natural next step in completing the Scandinavian expansion.
To begin with, the additional markets in Europe will probably see the availability of the P7 and G3, as these electric cars have already gone abroad for the Norwegian market.
A representative of XPeng Motors told Electrek that its P5 sedan will be shown in the new store in Sweden tomorrow, and consumers can expect to see it available in Europe in the future.
