The mask requirement at the AHSen in Innsbruck continues after the holidays.
INNSBRUCK is a word with many different meanings. After the semester break, masks are compulsory at the AHS schools in Innsbruck. Matthias Hofer, the national chairman of the AHS teachers, is irritated by insufficient test capacities and incorrect PCR test results.

Students and teachers at the AHSen in Innsbruck must also wear masks after the end of the semester. Minister Polschek announced the first remedial measures, but PCR tests in schools continue to fail. “The PCR test has lost its credibility.” For the first time, PCR tests were carried out twice a week in schools, with a possibility of three tests. Since students are currently on vacation in Vienna and Lower Austria, the current double examination is only possible. In fact, the expansion of the tests had already been promised for November. The new Austrian laboratory not only lacks sufficient evaluation options, the test results are also often wrong. Because they falsely tested negative in December, a large number of students became superspreaders. “Now it’s the other way around, and many children are healthy in quarantine,” rages Matthias Hofer.

“The masks are the only effective means of preventing contagion, especially since we still do not know whether we have reached the peak of contagion or whether, like Denmark, we are only in a brief plateau phase.” For the time being, we welcome the extension of the Security phase until the end of February,” says Hofer.
