Toulouse. Kinkela: fashion takes on the colors of Africa
The ready-to-wear and accessories store, Kinkela has left rue Bouquières in the historic center of Toulouse, to settle permanently in its new premises opposite the Cartoucherie eco-district. The brand founded 7 years ago by Emma Boloko, was indeed until now only marketed in ephemeral shops or online. Kinkela is unique and original creations of wax accessories and clothing. African-inspired but made in Holland, this 100% cotton fabric is waxed on both sides, which gives it a very high quality: it does not fade and retains the intensity of its colors for a very long time. Emma designed the clothes herself, which are then made in France. This Toulouse native of Congolese origin has two passions: her job as a computer salesperson and, since adolescence, fashion. “I’ve always seen my mother in a boubou. She wore wax in the traditional way. I wanted to make everyday clothes out of it, modern and adapted to women of my generation. Clothes in bright colors to achieve a little cheerfulness to people,” she said. With the help of her collaborator Mathilde, an event professional, she does not intend to stop there and wants to make her new fully modular space a real concept store. A place of life and discovery of other brands, other creators and other talents. At the moment, you can also find the works of local artists there, and even a stand selling beauty products.
