Motorway: for the free Saint-Jory-Toulouse section
Asked for the TF1 television news about the increase in motorway prices, the mayor of Saint-Jory proposed that the Saint-Jory / Toulouse section be free, to also respond to the increasingly dense traffic in the town. Every day, 22,000 vehicles cross Saint-Jory. “This request for free is not only a question of safety but also a financial question. Users pay more than 1 euro for a few km being limited to 110 km/h for in the end having to find themselves blocked at the gates of Toulouse”, specified the town hall. The municipal opposition reacted, proving favorable to the proposal, but asking for parallel and rapid measures.
The Saint-Jory Demain group comments: “We say yes to free access, why not even from Castelnau, but are asking for rapid and strong action in terms of transport. Where is the public transport promised? Where is the support for the transport project? Toulouse RER carried by Rallumons l’Etoile? Where is the project for a new bridge over the Garonne? Why have so many housing units been allocated on the most congested roads in the town? We advocate the development of infrastructure and service public at the height and in adequacy with the growth of the population, and not the reverse”, underlined the leader of the opposition Victor Denouvion, recalling that “the good solutions for our environment remain to reduce the number of vehicles on the road, with buses, trains, carpooling and cycle paths”.
Nationally, the average increase in highways is 2% this year. An increase based on inflation and investment, the Ministry of Transport said in December. On the A62, fares near the Pink City remain fixed: still 80 cents to go from Saint-Jory to Toulouse-Nord towards the western ring road, and 1.10 euros towards the east. For Eurocentre, no change either: 1.30 and 1.80 euro.
