Ice hockey: Vienna Capitals succeeds at home against Red Bull Salzburg – ice hockey
The Vienna Capitals were able to win 3-2 at home against Red Bull Salzburg in the ICE Hockey League on Tuesday.
The Viennese make the 2: 3 defeat after extra time in the Mozart city on Sunday forgotten. The hosts put on a catch-up race worth seeing, made a perfect victory in regular time from a 0-2 deficit in the last third and were rewarded with a move up to sixth place in the table.
Vienna Capitals behind KAC
Immediately in front of them is KAC, who didn’t give Black Wings Linz a chance at 4:1 in another supplementary game. It was the second win in a row against Linz after the away 5:2 on Sunday. Another cancellation was announced on Tuesday, so the duel scheduled for Wednesday between Olimpija Ljubljana and HCB Südtirol was postponed due to medical precautions. There was no replacement date for the time being.
Capitals fell behind against Salzburg
In Vienna, the first third went to the taste of the favored Salzburgers. Lucas Thaler (7th) provided the quick lead, TJ Brennan (18th) waited. After a goalless middle section, the “Caps” turned up the heat in the finish. Nikolaus Hartl (50th), Mario Fischer (55th) and Fabio Artner (58th) turned the game around. The Viennese had already made up a two-goal deficit in Salzburg, but then lost out in extra time.
Capitals before that with five defeats against Salzburg
After five defeats in a row, there was once again a direct victory in the duel. At Salzburg, coach Matt McIlvane is still in quarantine at home. The KAC also had to do without their head coach. Petri Matikainen had undergone a planned lengthy medical procedure earlier in the week and was replaced on the gang by Juha Vuori. Rafael Rotter made a surprising comeback on the ice for the Upper Austrians.
