Flashback – Charlene of Monaco: this interview that created unease
In December 2019, Charlène of Monaco granted the South African magazine “Huisgenoot” a shock interview. The princess then looked back on a difficult year, punctuated by bereavement, worry and sadness.
The years follow one another and look alike on the Rock. The discomfort of Charlene of Monaco, treated abroad since mid-November last because of a “general and deep fatigue“, does not date from yesterday. On December 26, 2019, the Princess of the Rock confided to the South African magazine Huisgenoot the difficult year she had been through. “The past year has definitely hit me hard“had launched the wife of Prince Albert, reports the site of Madame Figaro.
The year 2019 of Charlène of Monaco was notably marked by the death of two of his friends, whose identities are not revealed in the article. “Both died within ten days. It was painful“, could we read in the columns of the South African magazine. To the mourning was also added a permanent worry linked to the delicate health of his father, Michael Wittstock, then 73 years old. The latter had also had to be operated on in his native country, South Africa. Still in the same interview, the mother of the twins Jacques and Gabriella also justified herself on this “sad look” often attributed to him by the media. “This year definitely hit me hard. People are very quick to say, ‘Oh, why isn’t she smiling in the photos?’ Well sometimes it’s hard to smile. They don’t know what’s going on in the background”said the one who has just celebrated her 44th birthday.
Homesickness
Originally from South Africa, the princess who has lived on the Rock since her marriage to Albert II in 2011 evoked his country with nostalgia : “I am privileged to have this life, but my family and i miss my friends in south africa and I’m sad because I can’t always be there for them”. Three years later, the revelations of Charlene of Monaco still seem true, attesting to her nine months away from the Rock and her mysterious hospitalization.
