In the agglomeration of Rouen and in the country of Bray, an association will organize hair samples to find out more about our health
The Lubrizol fire was the trigger for this process. What are the pollutants and metals emitted by our bodies? An association will organize hair screenings, the results of which are expected by the end of spring.
“We are doing what should have been done in the weeks following the Lubrizol factory fire.” exasperated Simon de Carvalho, president of the association of victims of Lubrizol. This association will organize on March 26, 2022 hair samples from children who live in the Rouen conurbation and in the country of Bray.
If he knows that the results of the hair samples will not have direct links with the industrial accident, Simon de Carvalho wishes “assess the health of the inhabitants of the territory“by comparing the results with similar studies elsewhere in France.”This campaign will make it possible to detect up to 1800 pollutants and 49 metals that our organizations have been able assimilator, emphasizes Mr. de Carvalho, it is a question of knowing if, on our very industrial territory, our health is deteriorating.“
The sampling campaign should take place near the Rouen courthouse. It will concern half of young boys and the other half of young girls, all aged 5 to 16 years. Another screening campaign for adults will take place later, according to the organizer. “The region is very polluted, advances Mr. de Carvalho, we have an background noise very important, in particular because the identity of our territory is marked by the SEVESO classified sites.“Normandy has more than 80 SEVESO industrial sites, particularly in the Seine valley.
Simon de Carvalho specifies that the scientific study will cost €29,000 and is subsidized to the tune of €8,500 by the city of Rouen. “NOTWe assume that the region, the department and the metropolis will put their hands in their pockets“, adds the president of the association of victims of Lubrizol. “If tomorrow the scientific analyzes prove a strong capacity on our agglomeration, then the political decision-makers will have to react, he warns, we collect this information to provide evidence to those who govern.“
The results of the study are expected at the end of the first half of 2022.
