Again basement fire in the Staaken high-rise district – fire brigade in large-scale operation – BZ Berlin
During the night there were several fires in Berlin: a high-rise building on Maulbeerallee in Staaken and an apartment fire on Forddamm in Mariendorf.
► Around 2 a.m. on Sunday night, the Berlin fire department received several emergency calls about a fire in a residential building on Maulbeerallee in Staaken.
Around fifty firefighters, including an emergency doctor and paramedics, moved out. The firefighters found several burning basement shacks and extinguished them, nobody was injured.
The firefighters still had to push toxic smoke out of the building in several smoky stairwells using pressure fans.
In the past there have been arson attacks in the area, and the police managed to arrest several arsonists, mainly young people.

Fire brigade saves man from burning apartment in Mariendorf
► There was also a fire in Mariendorf during the night: A man was rescued from his burning apartment in Forddamm in the Mariendorf district around 2 a.m. at night. Black smoke greeted the firefighters: nevertheless, the residents managed to be rescued from the apartment.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital. The cause of the fire is still unclear at this time, and a fire commissioner is investigating. According to initial findings, the apartment is now uninhabitable.
