Florence, the car market in crisis (- 30%): “Only companies or km 0 are sold, but there are none”
It is a black crisis for the auto market. In Florence, from the beginning of 2022, the drop in sales marks a minus 30%, with many major dealerships in the city now considering whether to temporarily close the business, put employees on layoffs or on forced holidays, and then reopen in the spring, immediately after the end of the health emergency. Therefore, not only and clothing: the pandemic, the increase in petrol, gas and methane, and the lack of preparation for the purchase by the Florentines, are throwing car sales into the abyss, accustomed until a couple of years ago, to mind-boggling numbers and turnover.
“Customers are more and more often zero-kilometer or corporate vehicles, small cars and not sedans: the problem is that they are nowhere to be found – says the director of one of the most non-multi-brand dealers in the city – At this rate, and with the expenses we have, we will have to close. During the week there are no customers, and those few who want to spend little, less than 20,000 euros “. According to the secretary general of Confartigianato Jacopo Ferretti “a change of pace is necessary to help a sector that has historically always given so much to Italy. The economic recovery of the country also passes through cars, ask the government to take action to be able to meet workers and customers as well. I am sure that these requests will not go unheeded ». The trade association, through its study center, has recently produced a dossier from the gradni difficulties that the sector is going through: in January, 107,814 cars were registered in Italy, with a decrease of 19.7 % compared to the same month of 2021 and 34.8% compared to 2019. “The market no longer exists – underlines Confartigianato -. Covid has created huge problems in sales and those few cars we sell may be late. Customers are not satisfied, not even economically: the Government must promote serious incentives, as has been done for the home bonus ».
