Nikolai Zelinsky (February 6, 1861 – July 31, 1953) – Russian chemist, one of the founders of organic catalysis and petrochemistry. Nikolai Dmitrievich Zelinsky was born (January 25) February 6, 1861 in the city of Tiraspol, Kherson province, into a noble family. When Kolya was still quite small, one by one his parents died of consumption, and the boy was left in the care of his grandmother. She tempered the boy, and he grew up healthy and active. Having chosen organic chemistry as a specialization, Zelinsky successfully graduated from the university in 1884 and was left at the department of chemistry. He did an internship in Germany, where, as a result of his experience in the east, he obtained mustard gas poisonous gas, and he himself became the first victim of it.
