Ornaments: the “USO XIII – Pitchouns Corbières XIII” agreement shines in Toulouse
September, an agreement between four rugby schools in the area Since has boosted the practice of rugby league.
Since the start of the school year in September, and on the initiative of Stéphane Selles, coach of the young treizistes of Val d’Orbieu, in Lagrasse, and of the USO XIII rugby school, an agreement has been drawn up between the U13s of ‘Ornaisons and their counterparts from “Pitchouns Corbières XIII”, a group of rugby schools in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse, Val-de-Dagne and Val-d’Orbieu. Thus, this U13 team made up of nine young people from the USO and four from the “Pitchouns”, accompanied by parents and managers from Ornaisons and Lagrasse, met, in Toulouse, the team from the Jules Julien XIII club as part of play-offs in the Occitanie League Cup. Thanks to the bravery, commitment and seriousness of all the players, and in particular Matilde Casty, the only girl in the game, the young players won a prestigious victory with a score of 22 to 18 against a great team. Toulouse. Accompanied by educators Fabien Amador, from USO XIII, and Matéo Lacans, from Lagrasse, the Corbières players were able to come back to the score after a start to the match rather in favor of the locals and this victory qualified them for the quarter-finals than they will compete in March against the Académie Sportive Carcassonne XIII. While waiting for the future jersey in the colors of all the villages united in this agreement, the little treizistes will continue to train on Wednesdays at the La Bézarde stadium in Ornaisons and on Fridays, with their “Pitchouns” teammates in Saint-Laurent- de-la-Cabrerisse whose municipality makes the stadium available to children and their educators. In the opinion of all the actors involved in this project, the format of this type of agreement seems relevant to boost the practice of rugby league among young people in the territory, historically attached to this sport. The future of the clubs, and of their rugby schools, depends on pooling skills and certain means to enable children to continue practicing their favorite sport in the best possible conditions. Many parents are expected to support the young treizists at their next meeting.
