From these countries Corona comes to Austria – Austria
The corona virus spreads in Austria mainly through local clusters. But some infections are also transmitted abroad.
Austria continues to struggle with the omicron wave. Currently, more than 30,000 nine infections are flooding the country’s databases every day. As a report by AGES now shows, some of these new infections are imported from abroad.
Balkans no longer “main supplier”
In the meantime, however, the cases with a foreign connection in Austria are already declining sharply. While most cases were recently imported from the Balkans, the current statistics show a change. According to this, the corona virus is now coming from overseas.
As from the report of the AGES, which “today” is available, two weeks ago most of the imported cases were related to Bosnia, but that has now changed. In weeks two and three there were still 1,185 imported cases – but this number has now fallen to 264. Bosnia is thus also behind Germany, which has 270 cases in Austria.
Serbia has also recorded a decline in imported cases to Austria. While there were 805 cases at the beginning of the year, there are now “only” 286 infections related to the Balkan state. However, Serbia still imports the second most infections after Austria.
However, the most common infections come from across the Atlantic – the virus spills over to Austria from the land of unlimited opportunity. As AGES was able to track, 299 cases can be traced back to the United States. Along with North Macedonia (+3 to 118), the USA is also the only country to record an increase in imported cases to the Alpine republic. In the first calendar weeks, 281 cases came from the United States.
