Florence: great success at the Teatro della Pergola for Bob Wilson’s “Jungle Book”, an Italian exclusive
Florence – A Teatro della Pergola crowded with the public warmly welcomed the first, in Italian exclusive, of the “Jungle Book” signed by the great Robert Wilson; a highly anticipated show, presented in world premiere at the Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg on April 26, 2019, then staged in season and finally blocked by pandemic restrictions. Bob Wilson is just eighty years old, but from this enchanting show of his, the fourth made with the folk duo CocoRosie which, for the occasion, is joined by a large multi-ethnic group of skilled musicians and singer-performers, a vitality and a bond transpire direct between maturity and very strong childhood.
The rereading of the Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling is very personal; the story of Mowgli, the child lost in the jungle and told by animals, is made with delightful and refined dialogues (in French) that blend musical pieces, from folk to African American music with flashes of rock; white music and black music, like the abathic actors-singers-dancers, with serious background messages – the cronite messages for the environment and the extermination of animals from the hairless animal, the prejudices – but always exposed a touch of humor and a fund of hope in harmonious coexistence. A show with no downtime and perfect for all ages; the only problem will be finding tickets, with only three performances (Friday 4th and Saturday 5th February at 8.45 pm and Sunday 6th at 3.45 pm).
The show is co-produced by the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris with Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg (Luxembourg – LU), Les Nuits de Fourvière, Festival international de la Métropole de Lyon (Lyon – FR), Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (Düsseldorf – DE) , Manchester International Festival (Manchester – UK), Teatro della Pergola (Florence – IT), deSingel (Antwerp – BE), Festspielhaus St. Pölten (St. Pölten – AT); on stage Heza Botto, William Edimo / Gaël Sall, Naïs El Fassi, Yuming Hey, Laetitia Lalle Bi Benie, Valia Beauvieux, Olga Mouak, Nancy Nkusi, François Pain-Duzenel; musicians Vincent Leterme, Asya Sorshneva, Tez, Douglas Wieselman.
