Commemorative moment for four-year-old Dean Verberckmoes in Brussels
On Sunday 13 February, a large memorial moment will take place at the Kunstberg in Brussels for Dean Verberckmoes, the four-year-old boy who disappeared in Sint-Niklaas in mid-January and was found dead in Zeeland a few days later. This is reported by the Mediahuis newspapers and the news is confirmed by the Brussels local police. The organizers initially planned to organize a white march, but in consultation with the police it has been decided on a static event.
The young Dean was last seen on January 12 in Sint-Niklaas, where he and his girlfriend lived for a short time, but he lived with his mother and sister in Verrebroek. Dean’s body was found on Monday 17 January near the Dutch Neeltje Jans, a work island that is part of the Oosterscheldekering, in Zeeland. De Kock had been arrested earlier that day and the Belgian court had distributed a search message to both. De Kock’s girlfriend RW is also in prison, but there is not yet much clarity about the circumstances in which young Dean died.
Static commemorative moment
The boy’s death has stirred the mood, so a man from Arendonk, Glenn Wuyts, decides to organize a white march in Brussels. In consultation with the police, that plan has been changed and it will become a static commemoration moment at the Kunstberg. The organizer invites whoever comes to bring a hug, flowers or other memento. They can leave that to the Kunstberg, and everything would later be placed at Dean’s grave, the organizer says in the Mediahuis newspapers. According to the newspapers, Eric Geijsbrechts, the father of the missing girl Nathalie Geijsbrechts, will also be present, as will the family of Miguel, the boy who was previously killed by Dave De Kock.
