Schools in Toulouse: the temporary end of green classes causes the disappointment of parents
The city of Toulouse has decided to cancel the requests for green classes in the two centers it manages in Aulus-les-Bains and Saint-Laurent-de-Neste, arousing the disappointment of parents of students.
The Covid-19 pandemic obliges, the town hall of Toulouse, owner of two holiday camp centers in Aulus-les-Bains (Ariège) and Saint-Laurent-de-Neste (Hautes-Pyrénées), has decided not to authorize schools to organize outdoor classes at this time of year. Parents of students from an elementary school in the Saint-Aubin district of Toulouse are moved by this and have exchanged several messages:
“As you know, writes a mother of a student, the health protocol currently imposed on primary schools has a great impact on student learning. Masks, direction of traffic, hand washing, etc. Airing the classrooms every hour is a major disturbance factor when it is cold outside. Students often have to put their coats back on to continue the activity, when they are already masked. Their availability for work is greatly reduced. So why prevent them from going out to live for five days? »
The deputy mayor of Toulouse in charge of school affairs Marion Lalane de Laubadère, who says she understands “the disappointment” of the parents of students, explains that “the decision to cancel discovery classes was taken in consultation between education national and the town hall of Toulouse “, due in particular to the fifth wave of the coronavirus still ascending in Haute-Garonne.
“A discovery class is the responsibility of the teachers, adds the elected official. It is enough for the teacher who has positive responsibility for the class to become a contact case or for everything to be canceled and for the parents to come on site to pick up their children since it will not be possible to replace him.
Between January 10 and February 18, twelve green classes were canceled in Aulus and eight in Saint-Laurent-de-Neste.
