In Rouen, home helpers denounce “appalling” working conditions that lead to mistreatment – Liberation

On Thursday, home helpers from Onela came together to protest against their working conditions, which sometimes lead to “abuse” against the elderly people they care for.
“I call it modern slavery”, loose Véronique, home help and elected CFTC to the social and economic committee (CSE) of Onela, the brand dedicated to home service of the Colisée group, the fourth European player in support and care for the elderly. This Thursday, three unions (CGT, CFTC, CFDT) had called for mobilization in front of the Rouen agency, to protest against the non-respect of the collective agreement. The thirty people gathered denounce the group’s search for profits at all costs, to the detriment of the health of its workers and customers.
On Rue Saint-Eloi, the home helpers and support workers are trying to get the attention of the staff inside the Onela agency. Some stick signs against the door. But, behind the window, nothing seems to move. Murmurs of indignation rise: “They don’t give a fuck.” At the center of the group, Béatrice Bell, secretary general of the CGT personal service, made the trip. Since the release of the book-investigation the Gravediggers, she fears that the French will abandon nursing homes to turn more to home help. “But it’s worse. It would just postpone the problem,” assures the trade unionist.
