Toulouse: residents of Lafourguette are mobilizing against the pound project
This Monday, during the neighborhood meeting in the hall of the town hall of La Fourguette, residents recalled their opposition to the construction of a pound.
The atmosphere is electric. In the village hall of the town hall of Lafourguette, around sixty residents of all ages gathered at 6 p.m. on Monday to protest against an annex pound project. On the walls, many posters “No to the pound” are taped.
For about twenty minutes, members of the “poor opponents” collective – which was set up in December, two months after the announcement of this project – took the microphone to present this project. elements, admits a member of the collective who wishes to remain anonymous. It must be said that if we had more information, we would ask fewer questions. We had no official presentation”.
It is a set of residences in the Lafourguette district, with trees and rather quiet, which is affected by a pound project. “What poses a problem is the fact of seeing a green space that will become artificial. We are not against the creation of a new pound. But the chosen location poses a problem. A pound is normally built in an industrial area, which is not the case”, denounces the member of the collective “pound opponents”.
Another member continues: “It’s a vegetated area that could be used for something else. Population is exploding in the neighborhood. Another arrangement should be considered. »
Some also fear that the century-old trees on this two-hectare site will be razed. Emilion Esnault, deputy mayor in charge of security, said Saturday to “La Dépêche” that “this plot will not be mutilated” and “no century-old tree will be cut down”. At the end of the presentation of the project, some residents asked questions.
