These are the seven new faces of the Liberal Initiative in Parliament
From managers and economists to former leaders, João Cotrim Figueiredo will be accompanied by the Assembly of the Republic. Discover the CVs of deputies elected by Porto, Lisbon, Braga and Setúbal

João Figueiredo will have a parliament after the liberal circles have won and elected eight deputies for the elections in Porto, Lisbon, Braga, Braga and Setúbal. Moving from no to the fourth political force at the level, the national Liberal Initiative will have managers, economists specializing in marketing and national political scientists.
In the Assembly of the Republic, the Liberal Initiative will have five men and three women. João Cotrim Figueiredo, party leader, said this Sunday in his speech at the Gare Marítima that the IL “will be a firm, constant and implacable opposition to the socialism that governs us”.

Rui Nuno de Oliveira Garcia da Rocha
To the committee, Rui Rocha, a member of the executive election of the Liberal Initiative since the last election of the party, last December was a deputy for the Braga circle. Graduated in Law, he worked in law and developed a career in the management of different human resources, from civil construction to specialized retail.

Joao Fernando Cotrim Figueiredo
Elected in 2019 as the sole deputy of the Liberal Initiative, he was re-elected in these legislatives, at the age of 60, now counting on a parliamentary group with seven more deputies. He studied at the German School in Lisbon before traveling to London to study Economics at the London School of Economics. Back to Lisbon and a Masters in Business Administration, Business Faculty of Economics, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
In 2006, he joined Compal, a position he held until 2006, in the same position at Nutricafé Português, between 2003 and 2006. In January 2009, he joined Privado Holding, a company that owned Banco Privado (BPP), as executive chairman of the board administration. In April 2010, the board assumed the general management of TVI, succeeding José Eduardo Moniz, a position he held in October 2011. Between 2013 and 2016, he was director of Turismo de Portugal.

Carla Maria Proença de Castro Letters from Azevedo
43 years. With a PhD in Applied Business Management from ISCTE, Carla Charters de Azevedo had already joined the Liberal Initiative lists in 2019, having been number 2 in the Lisbon constituency. She has also been advisor to João Cotrim Figueiredo’s office in Parliament since October 2019 and coordinator of the IL studies office.
She was elected by Lisbon.
Rodrigo Miguel Dias Saraiva
He is 45, is a communications consultant and was initiated by his mouth that, on Sunday, Liberal reacted to the first projected results of the legislative laws. He belongs to the party’s executive committee, where he works as a member and was chief of staff of the parliamentary team during the last legislature.
He was elected by Lisbon.
Bernardo Alves Martinho Amaral Blanco
Born in Torres Vedras, he is 26 years old and was vice president of Instituto Mises Portugal, local coordinator at Students for Liberty and author of the blog o Insurgente, an activity he shares with the newly elected Carlos Guimarães Pinto and Rui Rocha and where he wrote about how “red doors” opened with the declaration of the first state of emergency in Portugal. He began his studies at the music academy of Santa Cecília, having gone through the Catholic University, where he obtained a master’s degree in Government Studies, Leadership and Democracy. Before joining Liberal, where he was head of the list in 2019 for Leiria, he worked at OLX Circle as a product manager and on the strategy team at Liberty Seguros.

Carlos Manuel Guimaraes Oliveira Pinto
Head of the list for Porto, Guimarães Pinto, 38, was invited to lead the party in 2018, after the mission of its founder Miguel Ferreira da Silva. In 2019, after the election of João Cotrim Figueiredo by the Lisbon circle, he would abdicate his charge to the current leader of the party.
Economist, emigrated to Dubai in 2008, where he worked as a business consultant until 2015, the year in which he would return to Portugal or obtain a PhD in economics. He is married and born in the parish of Paramos, Espinho.
He is the co-author of the book “Milhões a Voar: the lies they told us about TAP”, published in 2022 and in which he advocates for the end of the injection of taxpayers’ money in the airline. He is also the executive director of Instituto + Liberdade.
He was elected by Porto.
Ana Patricia Costa Gilvaz
She is 24 years old and has a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto, having been president of the Student Association of the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto. She was also a trainee lawyer at the firm Mendes Ferreira & Associados and a deputy at the Union of Parishes of Perafita Lavra and Santa Cruz do Bispo.

Joana Rita Madaleno Cordeiro
37 years. Marketing manager, graduated in Marketing from ISCTE – Business School and with a postgraduate degree in Marketing with a Specialization in Brand Management from ISCTE – Executive Education. In 2019 she was an independent candidate for IL, having later founded the party’s nuclei in Setúbal and Seixal. She is national councilor and deputy to the Executive Committee.
She was elected by Setúbal.
