“We can say that Portugal is more liberal”
Data from the ICS/ISCTE-GFK/Metris for the SIC at the polls point to a victory for the Socialist Party (PS) with 106 to 118 representatives, and the PSD with 75 to 85 representatives.
The discussion of the third place is the main doubt, at this moment, not between Chega and Bloco de Esquerda, but between André Ventura’s party and the Liberal Initiative (IL).
Rodrigo Saraiva, from the Liberal Initiative (IL), has already reacted to the first projections.
“Tonight we can say that Portugal is more liberal”, he began by saying.
“IL was the only party that presented itself with clear objectives during the campaign and it seems that this has been recognised.”
Rodrigo Saraiva also underlined that the probability of it being “a great night” for liberalism is high.
IL’s election night is taking place at the Gare Marítima da Rocha Conde D’Óbidos, on Rua General Gomes Araújo, in Lisbon.
The president of IL, João Cotrim Figueiredo, arrived around 7:42 pm, but entered through a secondary door, not speaking to journalists.
these are the second legislations which the Liberal Initiative was, with João Cotri Figueiredo being the first IL deputy when he got his election in the legislative laws of 2019.
At the time, he was not yet the president of the party, the charge came a few months later, after the departure of Carlos Guimarães Pinto, now the head of the list for the Porto district.
