Russians in 2021 began to buy meat more often and less often bread
Meat last year began to be found in the checks of Russians 7% more often, and bread – 14% less often than in 2020, according to a review by Russian Standard Bank (one of the largest Russian retail banks), the results of which are available to RIA News. The study used anonymized data on the number of checks in the top 100 most popular products in 2020-2021.
According to analysts, to meet the needs of products in 2021, there were bread, meat, cheese, coffee, milk. “Last year, bread was bought 14% less than in 2020. Meat was bought 7% more often in 2021 than in 2020. Cheese purchases in 2021 decreased by 8% compared to 2020. Coffee was found in cash receipts for 13% more often than last year.
In addition, analysts have studied how the recovery of commodities varied with the season. According to the authors of the study, the number of bread purchases in the spring of 2021 relative to winter (December 2020 – February 2021) decreased by 19%, in summer – by 22% compared to spring. In autumn, this figure increased again – by 15% compared with summer.
The demand for meat also varied with the seasons. In the spring, at the height of the barbecue season, it was bought 1% more often than in winter. In summer, this figure decreased by 21% relative to spring. Here, the vacation period, which in 2021 was more active than in 2020, probably affected. By autumn, according to statistics, the activity in meat purchases increased again. It was bought 8% more often than in summer.
The authors of the study calculated that spring purchases of cheese decreased by 15% compared to winter. And in summer they were 20% lower than in spring. By autumn, the demand for cheese rose again. So, from September to November 2021, it appeared in cash receipts 10% more often than from June to August.
Compared to winter, the weight of coffee purchases increased by 12%, and in summer compared to spring it fell by 24%. With the onset of cool weather, the number of invigorating drinks increased again – coffee was found in cash registers in autumn 15% more often than in summer.
Milk appeared in Russians’ cash registers 18% less often than in winter. In summer, this figure decreased by 24% compared to spring. In the autumn, they began to stock up on calories before winter with the help of milk porridge and warm up with tea with warm milk more often – milk appeared in the checks of Russians 11% more often than in summer, met in practice.
