From start to finish, this meeting between AS Monaco and RC Lens in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, Sunday January 30, will have been disarmed. Well launched thanks to a euphoric start to the match where they pierced the nets of Jean-Louis Leca three times, the Monegasques gradually lost the thread of a meeting that they mastered.
Just before the break, Wesley Saïd put the senses on the path to an unthinkable comeback in front of their audience, fter a first unlikely reversal of the situation in the previous round against Lille. On returning from the locker room, the Sang et Or continued on this path, thanks to a goal from Arnaud Kalimuendo, returned a few minutes earlier. Subsequently, the two scorers, well helped by Gaël Kakuta, besieged the ASM camp, difficult in the usual third Monegasque goalkeeper, Vito Mannone.
For their part, the principality’s attackers were just as clumsy, like Sofiane Diop who missed the boat. A the 88th minute, the Monegasque captain, Wissam Ben Yedder, finally killed the suspense by scoring the KO goal (4-2). After Red Star (N1) and Quevilly Rouen (L2), Monaco continues its journey in the Coupe de France.
