San Marino. Montanari (CdLS): “The Day of Remembrance forces us to deal with the present”
“L‘Holocaust is a page of the book of Humanity from which we will never have to remove the bookmark of memory ”.
It is with this sentence by Primo Levi that the general secretary of the CDLS, Gianluca Montanari, underlines the importance of not forgetting the horrors of Nazi-fascism: “In uncertain moments like the ones they are experiencing, cultivating the duty of memory for the trade union means affirming the value of cooperation and integration against the barbed wire of new nationalisms, it means committing oneself to defend democracy against the temptation of the strong man, it means never getting tired of transmitting the values of freedom, tolerance and equality to our young people ”.
For the secretary of the CDLS, the Day of Remembrance “is not just a symbolic occasion to recall the past and the extermination of 6 million Jews, but an opportunity to re-read our present as well “.
“Do not forget the horrors of Nazi-fascism – concludes Montanari – it forces us to deal with the present, obliges us not to be indifferent to the horrors and discrimination of our day: to the cold-dead refugees on the Balkan route; in the brutal face of a globalization that generates inequality and poverty; to the threats of a new war in the heart of Europe “.
