Letter to the Editor – No discussion, decision made
As both state newspapers report, the Triesenberg municipal council decided on January 18, 2022 that on May 22, 2022 the population in Triesenberg can decide on the “village center expansion with a total cost of 13.5 million francs”. Until then, “several information events for all interested parties are planned”.
Quote from “Volksblatt” on Wednesday: “Since the population of Triesenberg was invited to the village café in October 2020 to discuss the development of the village center, a lot has happened.” end quote.
However, anyone who remembers the “village café” mentioned knows that back then there was no discussion, only “information”. The moderator, hired and paid by the community, had the task of not allowing those present to have a say under any circumstances. Not even former head Alfons Schädler, the “father of today’s village center”.
In various “Dorfspiegel” editions, the population has been told several times since the 2020 village café that they have been announced. This is also the case in “Dorfspiegel” No. 159/August 2021, page 11: “The municipal council will release the procedure for communicating with the population and their reference to the decision-making process in autumn 2021.”
The municipal council has now decided, without involvement and without discussion with the population, and set the vote on the total investment costs of 13.5 million for May 22, 2022. With this municipal council decision, the population is now faced with a fait accompli.
We experience the same as at the last village café. No discussion, because the municipal council decision has already been made.
That’s a pity. Hardly anyone is against Triesenberg getting a great new shopping center in the village center, together with other shops and enough space for really sensible uses. However, if you only want to inform and not discuss, with such an approach you also endanger the improvements desired by the general public.
