Ukrainian in Portugal Community in crisis with Russia
The Ukrainian community in Portugal is following “with great concern” the current crisis with Russia. To TSF, the president of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal, still believes in the diplomatic route, but considers it more dangerous than the one in 2014, which culminated in the annexation of Crimea by Russia. Russia’s ambitions are what most worries the president of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal.
“Putin will never leave Ukraine. (…) Of course we are all very worried knowing that Vladimir Putin’s government is unpredictable”, says Pavlo Sadokha.
Pablo Sadhoka that the current tension could be more dangerous than Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 because “Russian propaganda is preparing the people for a war against the world”.

“The difference between 2014 and now is that Russia is saying that we have divided the world, we have returned to the Cold War, and we are on the verge of a third world war”, he stresses.
The believer believed that he can support Ukraine, but is surprised by the refusal to provide Kiev: “Putin de cannot be the leader of this gesture by Germany. to change the height of a policy, and to change this dependence on a country that does its foreign policy not through economic interests, the interests of living in peace, but through polls and terrorism”.
The United States, United Kingdom and Canada ordered some diplomatic personnel and families to be evacuated from Kiev, but Europe, including Portugal, wanted to wait and see, which, for Pavlo Sadokha, is a good sign.
“We think that there is no need to make more warnings that everything is over and that Ukraine will not be able to defend itself. The fact that Portuguese diplomats and their families remain in Ukraine give us confidence that, perhaps, we will succeed, diplomatic way, this conflict”, justification.
Even so, Pavlo Sadokha recognizes that he will not go on to fight on the border: “We would very much like the world to be able to, diplomatically, avoid this war, a tragedy. , to convince Putin to this aggression, but knowing that Ukraine will not let go.
