Portugal can use the seven million of spring
January already adds more than 830 thousand new infections. It is the equivalent of that recorded in the first 12 months of a pandemic. Duplicate cases up to 9 years old. Country can fly the seven million in spring
From day to day, January has been recording new SARS-CoV-2 infections. This month alone, and until last Sunday, there were more than 830,000 new cases. As much as recorded in the first 12 months of a pandemic. With pressure on the new: total, the age group from zero to 19 years old accounts for a quarter. With infections in the little ones, up to nine years old, doubling. With this transmission speed, epidemiologist Manuel Carmo Gomes estimates that seven will arrive in the spring with more than millions of Portuguese infected.
Analyzing yesterday’s bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), which reports on Sunday and the epidemiological data of January 1, the country already has more than 830,000 cases this month alone. Which is equivalent, explains the mathematician Carlos Antunes, to JN, “to those infected in the first 12 months of the pandemic”, which began in March 2020. On Sunday, in accumulated terms, Portugal recorded 2,255 million cases. Observing age groups and analyzing nine years of age, it is the one that registers the greatest growth, doubling the number of cases. In 23 days, more than 101,000 minors contracted the virus. Then follow the ten to 19 years, with a growth of 74% (plus 114 thousand). Adding the two groups, it thus accounts for a quarter of the cases in the period under analysis. The opening of schools, highlighted by the professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, is not unrelated to this.
