Landestheater hires its own composer
Culture
The Salzburg State Theater has created a position that is unusual in German-speaking countries. From February 1st, the theater will have its own house composer – the graduate composer and conductor Katrin Schweiger. The Landestheater announces this on Tuesday.
Born in 1987, Schweiger will in future compose her own works for the house and then take on the musical accompaniment for existing productions. At the same time she is the musical director of plays and musicals.
The composer herself says about her commitment: “It is an absolute special thing to get a job as a composer. The combination of composing, orchestrating, music production on the PC, musical rehearsals with performers, accompanying performances as a pianist and also writing texts for musical productions makes this position so varied and exciting for me, as it is perfectly tailored to my abilities.”
Comprehensive catalog of works
Katrin Schweiger completed her composition studies “Film Music & Sound Design” at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg (D). Since 2011 she has been working as a freelance composer, conductor, singer and music teacher in Munich and since 2012 has also been a regular guest lecturer at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy.
In 2016 she completed the Hollywood master class “Arranging for Strings and Bigband in Popmusic” with Chris Walden. Her catalog of works includes around 50 compositions and several orchestrations and ranges from film, theater and contemporary concert music to popular rock and pop music and jazz.
