Hospitals relieved, but tougher course required
politics
The situation regarding CoV infections has also changed in the city and state of Salzburg. They always reach new record numbers. Nevertheless, few people have to go to the hospital and even fewer to intensive care units. Nevertheless, the specialist Richard Greil and the state statistician Gernot Filipp continue to call for tough political measures.
According to experts, the number of hospital patients is still manageable. According to the statistician Gernot Filipp from the state government office, the record number of infections is likely to continue to rise: “At 2,700, we now have the absolute highest value that we expected to have. In the Delta variant, it was 1,700. That will continue to increase. But we are on the verge of a turning point. That could be this week or next week.”
Only Tyrol currently has an even higher incidence than Salzburg. It is said that more and more employees are absent in the economy because they are infected.
“Weak capacity of the clinics”
The difficult situation also affects the hospital, says primary Richard Greil, who has been demanding tough measures against infections from politicians for many months: “Six specialists and senior physicians have failed in Third Medicine alone. There are also laboratory staff. We struggle with that every day. As a result, the capacity of the clinic is lower.”
Greil is still strictly against the simplification of CoV regulations in politics that many are calling for: “That would be careless. We have to get through the omicron wave of increased infection numbers. We & also expect a particularly significant increase in long-term mortality – in cancer patients and other diseases.”
Even statisticians against relief
Doctor Greil is not alone in his call for the measures to be maintained. Statistician Filipp also advocates a continuation of the hard course: “There are many sick leave and cases of quarantine. That’s why you have to be careful here.”
In general, the omicron wave IS expected to be overcome in about two months. Then there should be better drugs to treat CoV.
