State Secretary Raščan and Chilean Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Slovenia’s recognition
State Secretary dr. In a videoconference conversation with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile Carolina Valdivia, Stanislav Raščan emphasized that Slovenia would be eternally grateful to Chile for recognizing Slovenia’s independence on 16 January 1992 – only a day after many European countries.
State Secretary Raščan and Undersecretary Valdivia expressed mutual satisfaction with the excellent relations that the two countries have been developing since then. They called for further strengthening of political dialogue and cooperation in all areas of common interest, most recently the circular economy, digitalisation and artificial intelligence.
Slovenia greatly appreciates Chile’s active participation in the annual conference Days of Latin America and the Caribbean. The participants in the last conference, held in April 2021, were addressed by, among others, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile Andrés Allamand.
The country is also bound by a successful partnership in international organizations such as the United Nations and the OECD. Relations with the European Union and the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region, as well as cooperation between members of the Pacific Alliance and its observers, including Slovenia since 2017, offer a number of new opportunities for further cooperation.
On this occasion, State Secretary Raščan presented Slovenia’s decision to run for a seat on the UN Security Council for the 2024-2025 term.
