Casanova Opera Pop, debuts 1 / o musical dedicated to Venice – Music

Sugar Mizzy January 22, 2022

The melancholy of the solitary calli in winter, the thin fog that muffles noises and sensations, the beauty of an ageless city, motionless in time, the water that, still, reflects ancient wonders, the darkness that comes towards you at every turn. It could only be Venice that welcomed the sold out of Casanova Opera Pop, the intense work composed, composed and produced in recent years by Red Canzian (together with the whole family, Chiara, son Phil, wife Bea) and taken from Matteo Strukul’s best-seller “Giacomo Casanova – the sonata of broken hearts”, directed by Emanuele Gamba.
A work that goes beyond the musical, beyond the genres, crossing theater with dance, rock, pop, passion and a story, dedicated to one of the most famous Italian characters in the world – Giacomo Casanova – who has his roots in times gone by.
Twenty-one performers on stage, 2 hours of music in two acts and 35 unreleased songs sung live, 120 costumes (designed by Desirée Costanzo and made by Atelier Stefano Nicolao, nominations for costumes in the Oscar-winning film Eyes Wide Shut), over 30 scene changes, immersive sets and pyrotechnic effects (as in the painting dedicated to the Carnival).
“They have been two very long and difficult years for theater and music and the difficulties are still not over, but I fought with all my strength, myself and all the wonderful people involved in this project, to go on stage with Casanova Opera Pop in this early 2022, without waiting any longer – says Red, absent at the premiere because he is still recovering after hospitalization, but who still wanted with an audio message, which moved the family -.
In the excitement of these last few days of rehearsals before its debut in Venice, in a sold out theater with full capacity for three evenings – demonstrating how much we all miss the stage – I look at our show as a tenaciously desired son, who he grows wonderful day after day and that I can’t wait to show to the world, wishing him a long and satisfying life “.
The show tells the story of the Giacomo Casanova man (played by a very good Gian Marco Schiaretti) returning from exile, a staunch defender of Venice from the power games that would have it sold to Austria, who meets the love of Francesca (Angelica Cinquantini, face familiar of television drama). In the cast also Pietro Garzoni, Manuela Zanier, Paolo Barillari, Jacopo Sarno, Roberto Colombo, Antonio Orler, Silvia Scartozzoni, Rosita Denti, Alice Grasso.
“I have long cherished the idea of composing a musical work dedicated to Venice, explains Canzian – perhaps the only one in the world of such notoriety to not have ‘his’ musical, and to Giacomo Casanova, one of the universally known Italian characters, but so far told in a somewhat monothematic key, while I wanted to represent him in the nuances that one of the most interesting historical figures that Italy and Venice in particular can boast of him “.
The show repeats tonight and tomorrow at the Malibran Theater.
Then on tour until March in Bergamo (28 and 29 January), Udine (from 1 to 3 February), Milan (from 9 to 20 February), Treviso (from 22 to 25 February) and Turin (from 8 to 13 March). Also out the double CD “Casanova Opera Pop” (BMG), with the tracks of the musical, the lyrics of the songs sung by the performers and the prologue played by Red Canzian, the photos of the cast and the original color work designed by Milo Manara for the artwork.
