Coulthard and Chadwick form Team GB for RoC 2022 in Sweden next month
Ex-Formula 1 driver David Coulthard and two-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick will compete for Team GB at the Race of Champions which takes place in Pite Havsbad, Sweden on 5 and 6 February.
Coulthard, the 13-time Grand Prix winner, is no stranger to the Race of Champions, having competed in the competition on several occasions since making his debut in 2004.
The former Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull Formula 1 drivers are looking forward to the event and will hope to add their winning numbers to this year’s event.
This year, the event is known as the ROC Snow + Ice World FINAL.
“Race Of Champions is an event that I always enjoy competing in, but competing on snow and ice this year will be a completely different experience than the stadium tracks,” said Coulthard.
“I have driven a bit of ice driving with AMG Mercedes in Sweden before, but it will be a challenge to beat the Nordic drivers in their ace.”
Coulthard will be joined in the Team GB line-up by two-time W Series Champion and Williams’ development leader Chadwick, who will make her Race of Champions debut and this is something she looks forward to competing in.
βI am super happy to make my Race Of Champions debut in Sweden. It is an event that I have always loved to see so I can not wait to experience it for the first time. β Chadwick added.
“It will be an honor to represent Britain with an icon like David Coulthard.”

Chadwick and Coulthard are just the latest in a long list of drivers who will be announced as part of the line-up for the Race of Champions 2022, other drivers include, four-time Formula 1 champion, Sebastian Vettel, seven-time NASCAR Champion and IndyCar driver Jimmie Johnson and Alfa Romeo F1 team driver Valtteri Bottas.
For 30 years, only one other female driver has competed in the most important ROC events.
“It was Susie Wolff 2014”, recalled ROC’s chairman Fredrik Johnsson.
“Susie teamed up with DC [David Coulthard] at that event to finish second in the ROC Nation’s Cup. ROC is designed to be an “equal playing field”.
“I co-founded Race Of Champions with the world’s most successful female driver, Michele Mouton, who proved that women can win against men at the highest level. We look forward to seeing more women compete at the top level of motorsport as racing becomes more accessible.
“The ROC Nations Cup was introduced in 1999.
“At the time, it was a bit of an experiment, but this concept of team competition quickly became a big hit and really highlights the intense but kind-hearted rivalry and camaraderie that ROC is known for.”
Race of Champions is a very special event for all drivers who participate and this is not lost on the organizers.
Johnsson added: “We took a risk to get to the Arctic Circle, but the international community of competitors looks to ROC for something really special every year. The turnout of drivers has once again been exceptional this year, despite the remote location and the continued challenges with covid.
“Sweden will give ROC fans the chance to see their favorite drivers tackle the difficult and unpredictable conditions with ice and snow.”
