Ukraine in January-December 2021 significantly increased the cost of importing electricity from Russia and Belarus.

According to statistics, the total cost of importing electricity to Ukraine amounted to USD 87.34 million. from $131.6 million a year earlier.
The largest part – 51.3%, or $44.8 million – fell on supplies from Belarus, $29.6 million (33.9%) – from Slovakia, $6.2 million – from Russia (7 .2%) and $6.5 million (7.5%) from other countries.

This year earlier there were sources of electricity generation costs in Slovakia and Hungary. Belarus in 2020 accounted for only 9% of energy costs, while in Russia electricity was not purchased at all.
In addition, it is reported that in Ukraine, according to the results of 2021, 256.9 million US dollars were received by 8.3%.
Thus, 51.4% (95.5 million dollars) of export proceeds fell on the supply of goods to Hungary. About 25.2% (64.8 million dollars) of the total volume of product exports went to Poland and 23.7% (61 million dollars) to Romania. In other countries, exports amounted to USD 35.4 million.

Ukraine in 2020 increased the export of electricity in monetary terms compared to 2019 by 25.9% – up to USD 280.8 million.
The cost of importing electricity to Ukraine in 2020 increased by 8.4% to $131.6 million.
On February 1, 2021, Ukraine resumed commercial imports of electricity from Russia due to a shortage of electricity during the peak winter period. Deliveries occurred in March, in May.
At the end of May, the National Commission for State Regulation in the Sphere of Energy and Utilities (NKREKU) banned imports to Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian energy until November.
Threat of rolling blackouts in Ukraine:
- Earlier, Oleg Popenko, the head of the group of consumers of utilities, said that Ukraine was threatened with rolling emissions of electricity closer to January-February. Apparently, for two months in the territory of our state, there have been unpleasant sensations with the supply of electricity.
- On November 11, 2021, the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, announced a high probability of rolling blackouts in Kiev.
- On December 21, 2021, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that there would be no rolling blackouts in Ukraine.
- On December 28, 2021, Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko noted that carrying out repair work during the heating period with the disconnection of consumers, especially the failure to provide alternative food to consumers, is unacceptable.
- From December 28 to December 31, mass emissions of harmful substances were carried out in Kiev. There were hundreds of houses outside the light. Mandatory suppliers said the power outage was due to scheduled maintenance work.
- On December 29, the press services of DTEK Kiev Electric Grids and DTEK Kiev Electric Grids allowed that planned work on power grids with power outages from December 29, 2021 to January 10, 2022 is not carried out in Kiev and the Kiev region.
