Portugal has exceeded the mark of 30 million tests – Coronavirus
On January 14, last Friday, Portugal recorded a week’s total of 30,074,38 covid-19, sent since the beginning of the pandemic, indicates a statement from the Ricardo Jorge Institute community, sent this morning to newsrooms. Of these, approximately 17.7 million are from TAAN/PCR and close to 12.4 million are from tests
rapid antigen (TRAg) assays for professional use. Numbers do not include self-tests.
In January, until the 14th, closer to 3.3 of diagnostic tests, with a daily average of more than 233 thousand. Of these, about 1 million were TAAN/PCR and more than 2.2 million were TRAg for professional use. The data promise to place this month as the one in which it was most tested.
Currently at the head of the podium is December, when more than 5.4 million tests were carried out, which corresponds to a daily average of more than 174 thousand tests. December 30th was the day of the pandemic with the most tests carried out: 402,756. The increase in testing can be explained by the holiday season and the highly contagious omicron variant. The statement from the Ricardo Jorge Institute does not indicate the positivity rate of the tests carried out, however, doing the math to the DGS daily bulletin, it is to count, from January 2 to 15 (with data from January 1 to 14), a total of 439,767 confirmed cases, which indicates that 13.33% of the tests performed were positive.
