Company | Marseille: an anti-fur demonstration at the time of the sales
In front of a fox skin and posters of bloodied animals, the Fourrure torture association leads a peaceful action in front of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to denounce the cruelty of the fur industry. “Every year we are there for the first week of the sales and inform people who buy hats, sweaters and scarves without knowing that there are animals in them. It’s often mixed up“, is in despair Cerise Viau, spokesperson for Fourrure torture. She takes a few hairs from a garment. The verdict is final: “If it shrivels up like that and smells like grilled pork, it’s animal.”
They are about fifteen to have met and to go to meet the barges. Flo, whose mouth is covered by a mask with a cat’s face, is confident: “Attitudes are also changing. The main thing is to sign as many petitions, to raise awareness as much as possible. I am happy when it leads to explanations and awareness.”
Flo shows off her down jacket, made entirely of vegetable fibres: “There is always the option to buy with morality.“But some passers-by dodge the stand with an argument:”I don’t wear fur.“
Similar actions took place in Perpignan and Paris yesterday. Since November, mink farming for fur production has been banned in France. Cerise Viau sees it as a battle won: “It’s long, we would like it to go faster but we must continue, we must not be discouraged.”
