Benoît Costil veut rebondir avec Bordeaux face à Rennes
It’s time to catch up for Benoit Costil. The Bordeaux goalkeeper experience was at fault during the defeat in Marseille (1-0) and did not have time to procrastinate to revive when facing Bordeaux this Sunday (1 p.m.).
A bad kick-start followed by a penalty imposed by Cengiz Ünder. “We always feel with it when we make this kind of mistake, that’s also what makes the job beautiful, we have no room for error”, assumed Costil after the match against OM.
All my career I built it in the difficulty
Which goalkeeper has never committed a fault? None, will proclaim this very special brotherhood, united in distress, which immediately pays for the slightest dumpling.
Except that this error put an end to the long series of invincibility (44 years) of Bordeaux at home against OM. Above all, this new setback came to fuel an already difficult internal crisis with the decision to part with captain Laurent Koscielny because of his salary.
At 34 years old and 383 L1 matches on the clock, Costil has gone through bad times, suffered storms. “My whole career, I built it in difficulty, it will be like that until the end”, recalled the international doorman.
He had a complicated start when he arrived in Bordeaux in 2017
“Benoît, I found him good this week, he is a leader, an important man for the team,” his coach Vladimir Petkovic said on Friday. “I heard his interview after Marseille, I told him he shouldn’t take all the responsibility for him. It is the responsibility of the whole group, which must do better. »
“He has a great career, he knows how to question himself,” said midfielder Rémi Oudin. If it is, it will be the only one of her season, she hurts, but that’s not what will stop her. »
This is not the first time that Costil has to bounce back in Gironde. When he arrived following the idol of the club Cédric Carrasso, the supporters were not delighted with his recruitment. But he made his mark at the club and since 2017 has seen five presidents, four owners, a dozen coaches and at least five goalkeeper coaches with different methods and for some atoms, without hooks.
He proved his effectiveness because if the Girondins stopped relegation last season, it was largely thanks to their goalkeeper and his eleven clean sheets in the first leg.
The young Alemdar in the Rennes cages?
Performances, he signed others this season, like at the end of September against … Rennes (1-1), his former club, against whom he had conceded a goal. “Costile made several high-class saves and allowed his team to stay in the game,” summed up Breton coach Bruno Genesio.
Opposite this Sunday, the Bretons will line up their young 19-year-old Turk Dogan Alemdar, baptized in L1 last weekend in Lens (0-1), or the veteran Romain Salin, recovered from a calf injury in the absence of Alfred Gomis, party to the African Cup of Nations.
Costil promised in any case: “This club (Bordeaux) will need me until the end of the season. I will fight and be important for the team and the club. »
