Caleb Ewan will target Milan-Sanremo before overtaking Giro – Tour
(Belga) With six victories in 2021, Caleb Ewan gave Lotto Soudal half of his successes last season. The Australian pocket sprinter, 1m67, however, had a last exercise rich in misadventures and intends to continue to shine in 2022.
After the Tour of Saudi Arabia and that of the United Arab Emirates at the start of the season, Ewan is heading to Italy. After Tirreno-Adriatico, he will be one of the favorites to win at Milan-Sanremo. “I continue to dream of this great race, it is my first objective of the season”, launched who has already finished second twice (2018, 2021) in the Primavera. “Last year I saw that I was able to follow the best in the Poggio. I got stronger and I registered it well. I still hope to be able to fight for the victory”, said he explained on Saturday during the presentation of his team. He will then compete in two Flemish classics where he could pull the chestnuts out of the fire, Bruges-La Panne and Ghent-Wevelgem, before taking part in the Tour of Italy. In 2021, he won two stages before retiring with a knee injury. He has already announced that he will not finish the Giro 2022. “If you are aiming for the Tour, you cannot punctuate it as a sprinter. It is not possible”, he warned. It is with a feeling of revenge that Ewan will compete in the Grande Boucle. “I had to leave him much too early last year (after 3 stages, editor’s note). I want to win sprints again against the best in the world.” (Belgian)
