Mozart Week Salzburg 2022 is canceled
Salzburg / Berlin (MH) – The Salzburg Mozart Week cannot take place this year due to the pandemic. The situation in Salzburg has changed dramatically, said festival director Rolando Villazón on Thursday. After consulting the responsible authorities, there is also no improvement. “We tried everything, but holding on would be unreasonable for everyone involved in view of this assessment,” he emphasized.
The festival had planned around 60 events at ten locations across Salzburg from January 27th to February 6th. With artists, orchestras and ensembles as well as audiences from all over the world, it was not feasible this year, it said. The maximum number of corona cases demanded by the Salzburg state government fell exactly in the festival week. A postponement of the festival is not possible due to the long lead time and the non-availability due to artists at a later point in time.
The Mozart Week has been taking place annually since 1956 around the birthday of the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on January 27th in Salzburg. The festival gathers the best orchestras, ensembles and soloists in the field of Mozart interpretation. Over 30,000 guests attended the 59 events at the beginning of 2020, more than ever before. The occupancy rate was 91 percent. Last year, an abridged edition was held exclusively with internet streams.
