Portugal and Morocco sign agreement on the entry of Moroccan workers
Portugal and Morocco signed this Wednesday an agreement and stay for Moroccan workers in accordance with the national legal system and with equal rights and obligations with Portuguese workers.
“The objective is to continue to build what is the true alternative to trafficking and irregular migration, which is regular, safe and orderly channels for migration”Augusto Santos Silva told Lusa and RTP at the end of the awards ceremony for a school competition on the 75th anniversary of the UN, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Lisbon.
The negotiation of this agreement was announced by the Government and, at the end of 2019, Moroccans began to appear trying to illegally disembark on the Algarve coast, raising suspicions after a new illegal migration route.
The agreement that Moroccans can work in Portugal in “strict compliance with the national legal system and in equal rights and duties with Portuguese workers”, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“This means your rights and your guaranteed protection”said Augusto Santos Silva.
The agreement also goes to “Portuguese companies that need a more guaranteed labor space for this recruitment”, through the “joint work of the Portuguese and Moroccan employment services and absolutely legal and absolutely dignified conditions”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs agrees that Portugal and Morocco are interested in combating illegality and trafficking in human beings” within the framework of the Global Compact on Migration, adopting human beings by the UN in Marrakech in 2018.
The agreement resulted from a far-reaching coordination in both countries or efforts to deepen the historical and fruitful bilateral, through the promotion and protection of political review and human rights migrant workers added to the uncommunicated ministry.
The agreement still has to be ratified in each of the countries.
Augusto Santos Silva stressed that this agreement follows an establishment with India, as well as other initiatives related to mobility.
It stood out from the members of the mobility that this one came into force, for having selected the Portuguese language (PC-framework on Portuguese mobility) more than three ratifications.
“The year 2021 was quite fruitful from the point of view of the mobility agreements signed by Portugal”, said the minister, noting that the agreement now signed with Morocco was negotiated in the months.
