Why such a delay? In his last speech, François Bausch, Vice-Premier, explained that the commercial operation of the second Luxembourg-Bettembourg line was now combined with other colossal works in Luxembourg city and Howald stations in order to “create new capacities as well as centers of exchange ”as defined in the Modu 2.0 strategy.
These extension works, of which a first phase was inaugurated last December at the central station, consistent with the creation of new tracks in the station in order to limit the crossing of trains, this in order to avoid the domino effect in case of delay.
“In view of the complexity of the project, the construction of the line and the stations is akin to an open-heart operation of the Luxembourg rail network. The acquisition of 300 plots was necessary for the realization of this project. Once the line is completed in 2026, rail in Luxembourg will experience a huge jump in quality, ”assured François Bausch.
