Barclays celebrates a century of existence in Monaco
This year, the international bank Barclays has been established for 100 years in the Principality.
“Power of One Barclays” is the philosophy of the famous bank of British origin which aims to be universal. Founded in 1690 in London, Barclays Private Bank flourished until it created a first subsidiary in 1922 in Monaco. It was then the first foreign private bank to open its doors in the Carré d’Or.
A nice tribute to Monegasque customers
Gérald Mathieu, CEO of Barclays Monaco, declared in a press release his enthusiasm for this anniversary: “In reality, these 100 years make us even younger! (…) I would like to sincerely thank the local community, our customers and partners”.
And to add: “Barclays Monaco has flourished today by collaborating with the local community on key initiatives, such as Monaco Ocean Week which aims to improve sustainability on a global scale. This is just one example of how we honor Barclays long-standing commitment to Monaco.“
Throughout the year 2022, various events will make it possible to take advantage of this centenary. From this January, a collection of Barclays historical objects will be on display in the bank’s Monegasque offices. For example, it will be possible to admire a gold signet ring dating from 1570, created by Thomas Gresham, the banker of Queen Elizabeth I.
