Toulouse: the end of braziers: a new blow for coffee makers and restaurateurs
The end of the use of braziers scheduled for the end of March 2022 does not leave cafetiers and restaurateurs indifferent. Already affected by the health crisis, it is a new concern
“We are already in great difficulty with the extent of teleworking, employees affected by covid, laments a cafe owner in Place de la Trinité. The disappearance on March 31 of the braziers on the terraces will further harden our affairs ”.
Within the framework of the Climate Law, electric or gas braziers will disappear from terraces for ecological reasons on March 31, 2022. This subject, which is pacing with loss of profit, already worries cafetiers and restaurateurs: “We have not yet considered how we let’s solve this problem, assures Younès, head of Prima Fabbrica Place Saint-Georges. Throws are a solution, but with covid it is not recommended. I am ecological and very polluting braziers are certainly nonsense to heat the exterior. But how to do it ? Since the but pandemic, customers increasingly prefer terraces when they are warm. A real puzzle ”.
A little further on, the restaurant Chez M. Georges is more optimistic: “We are going to lose about 5% of the figure,” says the manager. In winter, the majority of customers return to the dining room ”.
“I risk going less to the café, admits Emilie. Consuming indoors doesn’t mean anything to me at the moment”
At the Carmelites, the discourse is different: “We target the braziers in cafes but we could also take care of the air conditioning of companies at night and on weekends or the sometimes unnecessary urban lights”, notes this restaurateur, hoping that the The state will accept electric braziers that are less harmful to the environment. If the sector is determined to participate in the fight against energy waste, it is not at any cost: “For example, we refuse to have to charge the recycling of equipment, insists a boss close to the Capitol. . We have to be responsible, but we must not push the plug too hard ”. As for the customers, many deplore the disappearance of this very pleasant source of heat when the cold stings: “I risk going less to the coffee, admits Emilie. Consuming indoors doesn’t mean anything to me at the moment ”. An opinion shared by smokers, heavy users of heated terraces: “less freedom and pleasure”.
