The city’s new website in English does not know the history of Debrecen or Hungary
THE Debreciner wrote that back in December at a press conference (read here in English reporting) Lajos Barcsa (Fidesz) Deputy Mayor a Debrecen4U It was set up to help you access foreign information in Debrecen.
Barcsa on municipal TV about the project he talked about they had previously conducted a series of interviews with 450 foreigners living here to find out what they thought of the city. “Those interested in Africa are happy with our public transport system. We are all happy with the green environment in Debrecen. ” Barcsa said. According to the deputy mayor, those interviewed most complained about the lack of information. In response to a question, the politician admitted there is no specific, their official data suggests how many foreign nationals live in the city, but their number is estimated at 8-9 thousand.
Debrecen4U also informs international interested parties that after the fall of the Revolution and War of Independence in 1848-49, Debrecen became the capital of the country – the only problem is that this was not the case. For example, Debrecen became the capital of Hungary in 1849, after the fall of the War of Independence. In contrast, reality is what Debrecen also needs to know: in January 1849 it became the capital of the light arms down and it only happened on August 13 of a similar year, Debreciner called attention.
The country history the website typically describes it as a story of suffering, where medieval prosperity was replaced by a series of repressions. It is typical that in connection with the Second World War the text writes: “Until 1944, Hungary did not suffer any serious damage. In the year of the last war, therefore, most of the fighting took place in Hungary, and the deportation of 400,000 Hungarian Nazis led to a huge historical loss and tragedy. ” In fact, the Hungarian authorities are taking part in the mass deportation and killing of Jews in Hungary, this is not just the responsibility of the Germans.
Debreciner also noticed that the various informational texts were written in very strange English. These are full of grammatical errors, and some of them have been quite funny. László Papp Mayor of (Fidesz) in his greeting for example, the following sentence reads:
“Our ancestors have always had a long line to work hard to create and maintain the intellectual, cultural and economic significance of Debrecen – constantly looking beyond their own narrower patriarch, building relationships with distant lands.”
This grammatically special sentence can be translated into Hungarian like this:
“It is always necessary for a long line to create and maintain the intellectual, cultural and economic significance of Debrecen – looking beyond their immediate family, building relationships with remote regions through hard work.”
The word “patriarch” can also be translated into Hungarian as a patriarch. The original text contained a serious connection between their “narrower patriarch” (in other words, their “narrower homeland”), which the translator may have tried to translate into English.
THE Imprint of Debrecen4U According to the editor-in-chief of the website, Mayor László Papp.
