RADIO KRAKÓW. The conservators will take care of the barrack in the former Birkenau camp
Auschwitz Museum – conservation of one of the wooden bars on the premises of the former KL Auschwitz II-Birken. It is located near the historic main gate, the Museum, which is looking for a contractor, said.
The museum informed that the deadline for submitting offers is January 19, and the contractor, from which it appears that the contract is suspended, has 23 months and has a function. Works related to conservation and construction works, including archaeological research and preparation of photogrammetric documentation.
The barrack is in the part of the former where you have imprisoned a man. It was the so-called episode BIIa, where | Some of them were put into operation in 1943 with the first known groups.
Designed to create a project, it was made in a prefabricated structure designed on a rectangular plan. It performed a sanitary function. There were washrooms and toilets in it.
The Germans established the Auschwitz camp in 1940 to imprison Poles there. Auschwitz II-Birkenau was established two years later. It became the site of the extermination of Jews. There was a network of sub-camps in the camp complex. Every 1.1 million people, major Jews, were killed by the Germans in Auschwitz. Out of approx. 140-150 thousand deported to Poles’ contributions to death after transfer. Roma, Soviet prisoners of war and people of other nationalities also died in Auschwitz.
In 1979, the former camp was entered, as the only one of this type, on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
