Monaco held in check in Nantes for the premiere of Philippe Clement
The match: 0-0
It was not the outcome hoped for for the great first of Philippe Clement on the Monegasque bench but AS Monaco could not do better than a draw (0-0), this Sunday, on the lawn of FC Nantes. While the variety of offensive moves and the very high pressure exerted during the first twenty minutes suggested that the former Club Brugge coach had already made his mark, the Principality’s club failed to go the distance.
It took very little – a stop by Alexander Nübel on a strike from Pedro Chirivella (57th) or a miss from Ludovic Blas found in the middle of the surface by Pereira de Sa (58th) – for the Monegasques not to start again. la Beaujoire on a defeat.
The five-a-side defense set up by Antoine Kombouaré upset them as much. And not much happened after an attempt next to Sofiane Diop (24th). The best opportunity of the match, on the Monegasque side, came in the 77th minute when a header from the last recruit Vanderson allowed Myron Boadu to find himself alone against Alban Lafont but the Dutchman missed the target.
To make matters worse for Clément, the former AZ Alkmaar player was injured in the wake, forcing the Monegasques to finish at ten, all the changes having already been made. Despite a fryeur caused by Jakobs (90th) when Nantes pushed at the end of the match to win, at least Aurélien Tchouaméni and his teammates managed to limit the damage. They are 7th, one point ahead of the Canaries (9th).
The fact: Breakage in Monaco
This is the other black point of the afternoon for ASM: the physical glitches that limited the options of his trainer, completely short of ammunition when Boadu was also injured while all the Monegasque changes had already been completed.
Before the Dutchman, Djibril Sidibé and Benoît Badiashile had also been affected. The right side injured a thigh just before the half hour of play (28th), and he was replaced in the wake by Ruben Aguilar (31st). After the central defender, he was forced to give up after a sprint to intervene Randal Kolo Muani who left against just before the break (44th). The way he got out – supported by two members of the staff – does not bode well.
