Limanowa. The local government authorities of the city of Limanowa received the social responsibility and the commemoration of the acquired figure – Wincenty Gawron, a Limanowa native.

Wincenty Gawron was born on January 28, 1908 in Stara Wieś, and died on August 25, 1991 in Nowy Sącz. He was the son of Jan Gawron – the mayor of Stara Wieś for many years, and Anna née Dębska. He graduated from primary school in Limanowa, then the School in Lviv, and then at the State School of Decorative Arts and Artistic Industry in Krakow. There he studied with such artists as Karol Homolacs and Henryk Uziembło. From 1935 he studied graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. There he developed his extraordinary artistic talent, studying graphics under the guidance of professors, including Stanisław Ostoi Chrostowskie in Warsaw of Labor at the People’s Society. He was also an employee of the Ministry of Military Affairs and members of the Artistic Support Society. He made ethnographic plans for the Ethnographic Museum in Kraków and the Museum in Katowice.
The appointment of World War II in 1939 Wincent joined forces and became associated with the resistance movement. Former Union of Armed Action, founded by Franciszek Znamirowski from Stary Sącz. Wincentywron organized a combat Ga for this organization in the district of ulimanów. They were arrested by the Gestapo in a group of twenty people on January 18, 1941 in Mordarka, when he stayed with his sister Maria Biernat. He stayed in the prison in Sącz for five, and then was transported to the prison in Tarnów, from where on April 5, 1941 he was transported to the new KL Auschwitz. There, Wincenty Gawron became the camp number 11237. In the camp he made friends with Captain Witold Pilecki (who was in the camp as Tomasz Serafiński). Wincenty Gawron still worked in the Abbruchkommando first, and then in the camp sculptor. In that “sculpture room”, where Polish artists imprisoned by the Germans in the concentration camp worked, Wincenty Gawron met Xawery Dunikowski and Bronisław Czech. In the camp, she painted portraits, caricatures, and designed and sculpted various objects at the request of KL Auschwitz.
In May 1942, Wincenty Gawron with the second prisoner, Stefan Bielecki, escaped from the sub-camp in Harmęże. After making a social upheaval in his hometown. He got involved with the 1st and the Home Army PSP. In the village of Kicznia, he established a division of the Home Army. The Threatonyce family were driven by the Germans to Warsaw. After the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising on August 1, 1944, on the day on which others participated in the “Róg” group. He fought in the Old Town and Śródmieście. After the fall of the uprising, he left Warsaw with the civilian population and a contribution to the return of the cash register in Pruszków, who had escaped. Thus he was established by the NKVD, but also this time he managed to escape. He freed himself from Poland via Czechoslovakia and went to Italy, where he joined the Polish II Corps in Italy. There she met again with Captain Witold Pilecki.
After the demobilization of Anders’ Army, Wincenty Gawron emigrated first to Canada and then to the United States. He lives in Chicago, where the history of the Józef Piłsudski Museum exists, in which he gathered military and accompanying history with history. In the United States, as a Greek graphic artist, he created paintings, he designed stained glass and wrote. Experiences from the camp period of expression in paintings, graphics and drawings by Wincent Gawron. Many of these works, the wars that were created during and after his stay in the camp, were donated by the artist to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim.
